Sights and Cities along the route:

Yangtze River is the longest river with 3,720 miles long in China and Asia. The headwaters of the Yangtze are situated at an elevation of about 16,000 feet in the Kunlun Mountains in the southwestern section of Qinghai. It flows generally south through Sichuan into Yunnan then northeast and east across central China to its mouth in the East China Sea north of Shanghai.
The Yangtze River Cruise covers more than 600 kilometers passing the Three Gorges which are situated in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Along the way, there are a number of beautiful places of interest. Since the reform and open policies, great changes have taken place and the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River have a new look: deeper waters allow for further exploration of the Yangtze's tributaries; sacred mountaintops are closer to the eye of the beholders.
Waters of the Yangtze are often used for rice and wheat irrigation. It also has enormous and inexhaustible hydroelectric resources. In 1994 construction began on the Three Gorges Dam near Yichang and is scheduled for completion in 2009. The Three Gorges (the Qutang Gorge, the Wuxia Gorge, and Xiling Gorge) will also be the largest electricity generating facility in the world. The hydroelectric generators will provide 1/9 of China's total power output.
Chongqing, means Double Celebration, named by Emperor Guang zhong of the Song Dynasty 800 years ago. Overlooking the confluence of the Yangtze and the Jialing Rivers, Chongqing is known throughout China as the "Mountain City." Due to its strategic location on the Yangtze River, for over 4,000 years every dynasty has had a provincial capital there, after gaining special municipality status in 1997, Chongqing has become the largest industrial and commercial city in southwestern China and the economic center of the upper reach of the Yangtze.
Yichang, a major city of Hubei Province, located in the dividing line between the upriver and middle reaches of Yangtze River and gorges and plains, it is the port for transferring in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and a cultural city with a long history as well.
Wuhan, is the biggest city in central China where it is also convenient to find a flight to Shanghai, Beijing, and other places.
Fengdu Ghost City: constructed on the Mingshan Hill by the river bank, it is so called because of the legend which goes that about 1,700 years ago, two officials, Yin and Wang (the combination of their surnames means "Ghost King ") became Taoists here and eventually Immortals. Now with fantastic temples of underworld demons and gods, it shows the Chinese ghost culture and is a place for punishing the devil and awarding the good.
White Emperor City: actually a mini peninsular town scattered with temples and gates, it is located at the entrance of the Qutang Gorge on the north bank of the river.
The town was named by an official of the Western Han Dynasty--Gongsun Shu who in 25 A.D., saw white vapor in the shape of a dragon rising from a nearby well, and by taking this as an auspicious omen, he declared himself the 'White Emperor' and renamed this town.
Another legend makes this town famous, it is said that Liu Bei, the King of Shu State during Three Kingdom period (220-280AD) withdrew to this town after he was defeated by the armies of Wu State, there on his deathbed, he entrusted both the state affairs and his sons to the care of Zhuge Liang, his prime minister.

It was built against a rectangular rock with sheer cliffs on the river bank with 56 meters high, on the top of which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the rapid river and the countryside.

You can take a small boat to enjoy the spectacular views and experience a water-borne sensation you have never had before when the natural scenic wonders unfold in front of you with clear water flowing fast through the gorges, sheer cliffs and steep mountains rising on either side to create one fine art gallery.
Shennong Stream: a small tributary of the Yangtze with 60 kilometers long, famous for its picturesque sceneries, Shennong Stream is beautiful and ancient. When you take a sampan drifting along it which is not without risk yet exhilarating and a challenge to battle with the nature, you will be attracted and surprised by its crystal clear steam flowing swiftly from north to south through deep gorges, steep ridges and peaks, thick vegetation and wild flowers, flying birds, plank road built along a cliff and ancient hanging coffins, the Minority people and their sweet love songs.
The Three Gorges Dam: spanning the Yangtze at Sandouping, Yichang, Hubei province, China, construction began in 1994, it is now the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. The Dam will be 2,335 meters long, 18 meters wide, and its bottom will be 130 meters wide after completion in 2009, and by then the water level will rise to 135 meters above sea level.
